(No, don't worry, there's no bloodshed here.) I'm going to help you understand a bit more about the operating system, which is the most important software on your computer.
An operating system is critical for getting all the components within to communicate with one another. It also helps you communicate with your computer, translating messages to binary code (1's and 0's). An operating system manages the memory, processes, and all of the hardware and software. It also helps distribute resources. Finally, it ensures that the various applications can accommodate the individualized nature of the machine's configuration.
